Your journey

What you will master

For students who already read with the basic rules and want mastery. Your level is assessed first; if the beginner level serves you better, that is where we start.

  1. Ṣifāt: the character of the letters

Beyond where a letter comes from: how it sounds. Whispered or voiced, strong or soft. This is what separates a correct reading from a beautiful one.

  2. Tafkhīm and tarqīq

When the rā' is heavy and when it is light, and the lām of Allah between them: the rules behind recitation's full and delicate sounds.

  3. The three kinds of idghām

Mutamāthilān, mutajānisān and mutaqāribān: how letters merge across words, so your reading connects the way the reciters connect.

  4. The full madd system

Every madd with its cause and its count: muttaṣil, munfaṣil, lāzim, ʿāriḍ. You stop guessing the lengths and start knowing them.

  5. Mastering waqf and ibtidā'

Where meaning allows a stop and where it does not, hamzat al-waṣl and the sakt: the level of finish that makes a recitation ready to be heard.
